안녕하십니까? 기계공학과 박수경 입니다. 먼저 교수님들께서 저에게 제32대 교수협의회 회장이라는 막중한 업무를 수행할 수 있도록 기회를 주신 것에 대해 진심으로 감사드립니다. 지난 20년간 카이스트에서 근무하면서 제가 기억하는 교수협의회 선배 회장님들의 모습은 카이스트의 발전과 교수님들의 권익을 위해 묵묵히 헌신하시던 모습입니다. 전임 회장님들께서 교수협의회에 쏟으신 열정에 누가 되지 않도록 최선을 다 하겠습니다.

32대 교수협의회는 그동안 힘써온 '교수의 권익 증진'의 업무를 이어받고 나아가 '교수들의 의견을 모아 카이스트 발전에 기여'하는 교수협의회의 설립 목적을 더욱 적극적으로 추진하는 것을 운영 방향으로 설정하였습니다.

카이스트의 주요 자산 중 하나는 세계적으로 인정받는 우리 교수님들입니다. 교수님들께서는 끊임없는 도전과 혁신을 추구하는 최고의 연구자이자 교육자로서 여러 전문 분야에 기여하고 계시며, 다양한 조직과 기관에서 과학기술계의 리더이자 싱크탱크로서 활발한 활동을 통해 카이스트와 국가 발전에 크게 기여하고 계십니다. 세미나, 기고문, 인터뷰, 저서 등을 통해 과학기술 발전에 대한 교수님들의 깊은 관심과 비전을 볼 때마다 제가 이런 훌륭하신 교수님들의 동료이자 선후배로서 카이스트에 근무할 수 있다는 것이 매우 자랑스러웠습니다. 그러나 한편으로는 각자 활발히 제시하고 계신 의견들을 필요할 때 효과적으로 모으고 발전시킬 수 있는 소통의 창구가 다소 부족했던 것은 아닌가 하는 생각도 하게 되었습니다. 특히 카이스트와 과학기술계의 현안에 대해 교수님들의 생각과 비전을 효과적으로 모으고 발전시키는 창구가 마련된다면 더 큰 시너지와 영향력을 발휘할 수 있을 것이라고 생각합니다.

이에 교수협의회가 학내외 현안에 대한 정보를 교수님들께 효율적으로 전달하고 이에 대한 교수님들의 의견을 적극적으로 수렴하여 학교 발전과 교수님들의 권익 제고에 기여할 수 있는 플랫폼으로써의 역할을 할 수 있도록 노력하겠습니다.

플랫폼이 잘 갖춰져 있다고 하여도 교수님들께서 의미 있는 컨텐츠를 담아 주시지 않으면 교수협의회의 목소리는 힘을 얻을 수 없습니다. 무엇보다도 다양한 분야에서 바쁘게 활동하시는 교수님들의 귀중한 시간과 관심을 요청하는 것 자체가 큰 도전이라는 것을 잘 알고 있습니다. 그러나 “아무것도 하지 않으면 아무 일도 일어나지 않는다”라는 신념아래, 32대 교수협의회는 카이스트의 가장 큰 자산인 교수님들의 식견과 통찰을 적극적으로 모으고 목소리를 내기 위해 노력하겠습니다. 이러한 도전에 공감하시는 교수님들의 많은 지지와 응원, 그리고 참여를 진심으로 부탁드립니다. 감사합니다.

Greetings, I am Park, Sukyung from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. First and foremost, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the 32nd president of the Faculty Council, a responsibility of great importance that you have entrusted to me. Over the past 20 years working at KAIST, I have admired the former presidents of the Faculty Council for their dedication to the development of KAIST and the protection of faculty rights. I am committed to not falling short of the passion that the previous presidents have poured into the Faculty Council.

The 32nd Faculty Council will continue our efforts to enhance faculty rights and even more actively strive to fulfill the founding purpose of the Faculty Council. We will do this by gathering professors' opinions and contributing to KAIST's development. This will be our guiding principle going forward.

Our globally recognized faculty are KAIST's most valuable asset. As relentless pursuers of challenge and innovation, our professors contribute to various specialized fields as top researchers and educators. Their leadership and insights, shared through seminars, articles, and books, benefit KAIST and national progress. Witnessing our faculty's passion for scientific advancement fills me with pride to be a KAIST colleague. However, I have also pondered whether there has been a lack of effective channels to gather and develop these actively presented opinions when needed. An effective channel to gather faculty thoughts on pressing issues in KAIST and the scientific community could create greater synergy and impact.

The Faculty Council will keep professors informed on internal and external matters, gather their input for school development and faculty rights, and act as a communication platform.

A strong Faculty Council voice relies on active participation from our professors. I am fully aware that requesting the valuable time and attention of our busy professors from various fields is a significant challenge. However, with the belief that "nothing happens if nothing is done," the 32nd Faculty Council will strive to actively gather the insight and perspectives of KAIST's greatest assets, our professors, and to make our voices heard. We sincerely ask for the support, encouragement, and participation of professors who empathize with this challenge. Thank you.
